Why Was My Campaign Blocked or Throttled?

Published:

MailerLogic monitors your sending activity to protect your email deliverability and sending reputation. If your bounce or complaint rates become too high, your campaign may be queued or paused, or your account may be paused.

This article explains why this happens and what you can do to resume sending.

The exact thresholds are shown in the message or modal in your MailerLogic account. They may change over time, so always use the values displayed in your account.

What Does Account Health Mean?

MailerLogic monitors your sending activity at two levels:

  • Campaign level: The bounce or complaint rate of an individual campaign.

  • Account level: Your recent sending activity across campaigns.

If your sending activity crosses an applicable threshold, MailerLogic pauses or limits sending to prevent further damage to your sending reputation.

There are three main situations you may encounter.

1. Your Campaign Is Queued for Review

If you're using a new account, MailerLogic temporarily limits the number of recipients you can send to while your sending reputation is being established. If you try to send to more recipients than your current allowance, the campaign is queued for review instead of being rejected.

The information modal shows the requested recipients, your current allowance, account age, and estimated review time.

To continue, you can either wait for the review or contact Support to verify your account. Verified accounts bypass the new-account recipient cap.

2. Your Account Is Paused

Your entire account may be paused if your recent sending activity exceeds the account-level hard bounce threshold. When this happens, a red critical modal shows your hard bounce rate, total sends, hard bounces, and the threshold that was exceeded.

You won't be able to send campaigns while the account is paused, and the campaign you attempted to send is moved back to Draft.

How to resume sending

  1. Go to Bounces and review your recent bounce history.

  2. Look for patterns, such as a recently imported list, stale segment, or domain generating unusually high bounces.

  3. Remove bounced addresses and clean the recipient list.

  4. Validate the remaining addresses and remove old or unengaged contacts where appropriate.

  5. Contact Support and share what you found and what you changed.

Support will review the cleaned list and lift the account pause when the underlying issue has been addressed.

Important: Don't try to send the same problematic list through another campaign. Continuing to send to a bad list can further damage your sending reputation.

3. Your Campaign Is Paused

A single campaign can be automatically paused when its own bounce rate crosses the campaign-level threshold while it is being sent. This allows MailerLogic to stop a problematic campaign before it reaches more recipients.

The warning modal shows the campaign's sending and bounce statistics and provides a View Bounce Details option.

How to resume the campaign

  1. Click View Bounce Details in the warning modal.

  2. Review the addresses that bounced and the reasons for the bounces.

  3. Remove the bouncing addresses from the campaign's recipient list.

  4. Contact Support to request that the campaign be resumed.

The campaign is moved back to Draft, while other campaigns on your account remain unaffected.

What About Domain Reputation?

Domain reputation is monitored separately from account health. If a sending domain develops a poor reputation, MailerLogic may either throttle sending from that domain or pause it until the reputation improves.

If you receive a domain_reputation_throttled or domain_reputation_paused error, see Domain Reputation Protection for more information.

How Can I Prevent This?

The best way to avoid account-health issues is to maintain a clean recipient list. Before sending, validate addresses you're unsure about, remove stale contacts, and avoid purchased or scraped lists. New accounts should also follow the recommended warm-up process instead of sending to a large list immediately.

While a campaign is running, monitor the Bounces page. If you notice bounce rates increasing quickly, pause the campaign yourself and investigate the recipient list before an automatic pause occurs. Sending to engaged contacts first and making it easy for recipients to unsubscribe can also help reduce bounces and complaints.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a pause permanent?

No. A pause can be lifted once the underlying issue is fixed and Support has reviewed the account or campaign.

Will paused sends count toward my usage?

Attempted sends that did not reach a recipient do not count toward your delivered numbers. Check the Usage page to see what was actually sent.

Why didn't I receive a warning before my campaign was paused?

Bounce rates can increase quickly, sometimes within a few hundred sends. The protection is designed to stop further damage once the applicable threshold is reached.

To reduce the risk, validate your list before sending and monitor the Bounces page while your campaign is running.

Can I disable these protections?

No. These protections cannot be disabled because they help protect sending reputation across the platform.

Does an account pause affect transactional email?

Yes. An account-level pause affects all sending, while a campaign-level pause affects only the campaign that triggered the protection.

Why was my new account queued even though I have a clean list?

A new account is treated as a new sender regardless of the quality of the list you imported. Contact Support to request early verification and have your sending history reviewed.
